OptiHealth Institute Director
Jon is a forth-generation Seventh-day Adventist. He graduated from Sacramento Adventist Academy in 1978 and from La Sierra University in 1983 with a B.S. in Health Science. He then earned his M.D. and M.P.H. at Loma Linda University followed by a residency in Preventive Medicine and a fellowship in Addiction Medicine.
In 2017, Jon completed a mini-fellowship in Lifestyle Medicine at the SDA Black Hills Lifestyle Medicine Center with an emphasis in proper nutrition and regular exercise using Biblical Response Therapy. "Helping people develop healthier lifestyles by faith to prevent, and often even reverse, chronic disease is the kind of health care people need and appreciate."
Jon also got certified as a Personal Trainer and earned the "Exercise is Medicine" credential through the American College of Sports Medicine. He then went on to develop a medical-fitness testing protocol for integrating exercise, not only into treatment programs for patients with chronic disease, but also into busy lifestyles for anyone who wants to get fit and have fun doing it.
Jon believes bridging the gap between fitness and medical professionals will help solve our nations health care crisis. He is committed to creating a culture of optimal health by helping to train Christian health and fitness volunteers and professionals who provide practical, faith-based Therapeutic Lifestyle Change support services.
Jon lives in Riverside, California. He is married, has 3 adult children, and 3 grandchildren. He is 98% vegetarian, loves to exercise, and at 64 years old, he can run a mile in less than 7 minutes.
